Honoring thier mission to protect the citizens of South Vietnam from the brutal aggression of the North Vietnamese communist forces, they refused to surrender a single battle throughout the entire span of America's longest war. From the launch of combat operations in 1965 to the withdrawl of U.S. Forces in 1973, America's brave fighting men and women sacrificed their lives to sustain the hopes of a people striving desperately to form a more democratic society in the face of ruthless tyranny.

This coin is dedicated to the all the Coast Guard Veterans who served in the Vietnam War. The obverse features a rendering of the Vietnam Veterans Statue located on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The reverse bears the seal of the U.S. Coast Guard.
