Named in honor of America's legendary Founding Father and first President, the USS George Washington (CVN-73) was commissioned on Independence Day in 1992 as the sixth ship of the Navy's famed Nimitz class.

Displacing 97,000 tons and stretching 1,092 feet from bow to stern, this mighty aircraft carrier boasts a 4.5 acre flight deck and is capable of traveling at a top speed of thirty-five knots. Carrying a full compliment of 85 combat aircraft and 5,500 battle-ready crew, the USS George Washington has completed more than a half-dozen deployments in defense of America's freedom. Executing a vital role in Operation Iraqi Freedom, the "GW" continues to operate as a major component of America's global defense strategy.

The reverse contains the seal of the USS George Washington.
