Item # N60173   Price: $8.50Quantity:

Named in honor of America's Sixteenth President, the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) has served as an active-duty carrier in the U.S. Navy's famed Nimitz class since 1988.

Boasting a total length of 1,092 feet, the mighty USS Abraham Lincoln, nicknamed "Abe," measures 252 feet wide and stands twenty stories high from keel to masthead. Home to a full compliment of 5,500 crew and 85 combat aircraft, "Abe" is capable of speeding through the water at 35 knots as it carries out its global mission to enhance America's defense and protect the nation's vital interests. In 2003, the USS Abraham Lincoln played a pivotal role in launching the first air strikes of Operation Iraqi Freedom, which ultimately toppled Saddam Hussein's destructive dictatorship.

This coin is dedicated to the outstanding service of the USS Abraham Lincoln and her highly skilled crew. The obverse features a bust Abraham Lincoln next to the carrier that bears his name and contains his famous quote: "Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves." The reverse bears the official seal of the USS Abraham Lincoln.

Struck in a brass alloy and finished in antique bronze, this coin is struck in deep relief using a special "spalsh" minting process. Each coin comes packaged with a detailed header card that describes the USS Abraham Lincoln's contributions to America's military power.
