The U.S. Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) is a joint command comprised of 1,200 military and civilian personnel representing all branches of the U.S. Military.

USSOUTHCOM covers a massive area of responsibility that spans the entire southern U.S., Central America, and the Caribbean and is charged with the task of coordinating American and allied forces to combat terrorism, secure America's southern border, and aid in humanitarian missions. The command traces its origins to 1903, when U.S. Marines were dispatched to safeguard American interests during the construction of the Panama Canal. Over more than 100 years, USSOUTHCOM personnel have led the way in defending America and building strong partnerships with its allied neighbors throughout the southern hemisphere.

This coin is dedicated to the long tradition of excellence demonstrated by the men and women who have served this celebrated command. The obverse features the USSOUTHCOM emblem. The reverse bears the seals of the five branches of the U.S. Military. Struck in a brass alloy and finished in antique bronze, this coin is imbued with rich enamel accents on both sides.
