The Star rank is awarded to those Scouts who have demonstrated a long-term commitment to Scouting. The specific requirements for the Star rank include actively serving as a First Class Scout? for at least four months, holding a position of responsibility for at least four months in a Boy Scout? troop, earning six merit badges, and living the Scout Oath? and Scout Law? in everyday life. Candidates are also required to complete a Scoutmaster®-assigned leadership project to help their troop.
