Item # 60367   Price: $12.00Quantity:

Charged with the mission of providing air transport to the President of the United States, Air Force One is the nation's most prestigious passenger aircraft.

Fitted with state-of-the-art navigation and communications equipment and furnished for maximum comfort, Air Force One is configured to serve as an airborne office for the President during periods of travel. Measuring 231-feet, 10 inches in length and boasting a wingspan of more than 195, the plane can travel at 630 miles per hour and has a ceiling of more than 45,000 feet. Capable of in-flight refueling, it has a remarkable range of 6,800 nautical miles. Air Force One, which is operated by the Presidential Airlift Group of Air Mobility Command, is stationed at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.

This coin salutes the service of Air Force One to the President of the United States and to the American people at large. The obverse depicts the plane soaring above the skyline of the nation's capital. The reverse bears the emblem of the U.S. Air Force.

Minted in a brass alloy and finished in antique bronze, this coin's high-relief design is made possible through the use special splash dies, which create deep impressions in the coin metal during the striking process.
